For some, the holiday season isn't just an opportunity to spend money. It's a chance to make some.
Retailers and other businesses have been busy having job fairs, screening applicants and adding temporary, seasonal employees to their payrolls in anticipation of the holiday crunch. And many Oklahomans are using a holiday job as a way to make extra cash and perhaps score a discount or other perk.

Earning extra money for Christmas gifts is just one reason some people choose a seasonal job, and there are many others. For Linda Curtiss , the schedule she receives as a holiday worker for Teleflora works well with her lifestyle.
Curtiss, 63, has three grandchildren, and she prefers to have summers off to spend time with them. This is her fourth holiday season working for Teleflora, which has more than 250 employees in Oklahoma working in a call center and with its network of florists.
“I don't have kids at home anymore. Besides helping out with money around the holidays, it gets me out around people who are happy to be ordering flowers,” she said.
Others, such as Brandon Ramage , are looking for an opportunity that will continue after the holidays are over. Ramage, 25, recently left a job doing irrigation, which slows considerably in the winter, to work in the Cellxion wireless warehouse — a job Express Employment Professionals helped place him in. The company needs extra workers because of the volume of cellphone activity during the holidays, Condeluci said.
Ramage needed a steady paycheck so he can help his grandparents, who have health problems. “You just do what you need to do to make ends meet,” he said.
